Before Air Jordan shoes, Air Ship models reigned supreme. Designed by Bruce Kilgore and originally launched in 1984, they were the first basketball shoes worn by Michael Jordan as a professional NBA player. In the first games of his rookie year, Michael wore a white and red colorway, as well as a black and red (now known as "Bred") that Nike creative director Peter Moore created especially for him. This was a groundbreaking move as basketball shoes of the time were mostly white with color accents.
